Endodontics / Root Canals
Root canals are performed to preserve teeth with severe decay, inflammation or infection. The pulp is the live portion of the tooth which extends into the root and contains nerve endings and tissues. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, patients may experience pain, swelling or tooth loss.
Root canal therapy removes diseased or infected pulp tissue. In some cases, an antibiotic is prescribed to help with infection. Oftentimes, a crown is recommended after the root canal to restore the tooth to normal function and appearance.
