Composite filings are dental restorations designed to be inconspicuous and natural in appearance. They blend into the natural tooth, appearing less visible than amalgam (silver) fillings, which are darker and more visible. Composite fillings can be used to fill in decayed areas of the teeth, as well as to help repair chipped or broken teeth.
Why do I need scaling and root planing?
It is important to remove plaque and tartar from the gum pockets, as they allow bacteria to set in. The toxins from bacteria irritate the gums, and can lead to severe gum disease. Scaling and root planing can be instrumented in preventing bone loss and help you keep your teeth.
Why do I need an oral cancer screening?
Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help detect cancer at a stage when it can be more successfully treated. Smoking and use of tobacco products is the primary risk factor for oral cancer, accounting for more than 75% of oral cancer cases.
